Shepherd’s purse | Capsella bursa-pastoris
Capsella bursa-pastoris, known by its common name Shepherd’s purse because of its triangular, purse-like pods, is a small annual and ruderal species, and a member of the Brassicaceae or mustard family. It is native to Eastern Europe and Asia Minor but is naturalized and considered a common weed in many parts of the world, particularly in colder climates. Shepherd’s purse is used in herbalism, though it is a commonly used domestic remedy as well, being especially effective in the treatment of both internal and external bleeding and diarrhea. In modern supplements and traditional medicine the stems, leaves, and flowers of the plant are used to aid in wound healing and improve bleeding conditions, including menstrual disorders and circulatory and heart conditions.
