Rose Geranium | Pelargonium graveolens

Rose Geranium Pelargoniums are native to South Africa, but were brought to Europe in the 17th century and the first cultivation for distillation of the essential oil was in France. The plant was subsequently re-exported to the French colonies in Africa and then more widely. Rose geranium has been used in traditional medicine for the relief of hemorrhoids, dysentery, inflammation and cancer to name a few, as well as in the perfumery, cosmetic and aromatherapy industries all over the world. Some people take it as an oil for nerve pain (neuropathy), depression, and for diarrhea. It is also applied directly to the skin for nerve pain, especially pain following shingles. It is also used topically as an astringent to tighten skin.
