Catnip | Nepeta cataria L.

Catnip, catmint, or even catswort is known for its sedative, soothing effects not only in felines but also humans. Catnip is used for many health conditions which includes dealing with colds, headache, toothache, colic, and spasms. Catnip is a remarkable sedative, nervine tonic and treats restlessness and sleeplessness in both adults and children. Catnip also has great anti-bacterial properties, treats digestive issues, like heartburn and flatulence.  Throughout 15th century, English cooks put in a touch of catnips into salads and would add it to meat seasoning.

It’s native origins are unclear however there is evidence suggesting it travelled from Europe to parts of Asia, which includes China, however it has since become a global export and can be found all around the world.
